KOCHI:
A Kerala startup has come up with makeshift tents, capitalizing on an increasing craze among youngsters to stay under closed canopies with wardrobes and washrooms that can be easily dismantled after use.
At Kerala Startup Mission’s ‘Innovation Week’ that concluded here today, state Tourism Director V. Krishna Teja inaugurated the facility conceived and brought out by Campper, a startup engaged in outdoor travel segment.
The May 22-28 event at Kalamassery thus introduced another product backed by latest developments in technology, reinforcing the organisers’ efforts to boost the state’s collaborative startup ecosystem and inspire entrepreneurship among the youth. The weekend’s proceedings at the Technology Innovation Zone, 20 km north of this city, provided delegates with opportunities to know more about design-3D-maker products.
The 2016-founded Campper came up with its latest product, considering that travellers, especially trekkers, look forward to minimal lodging facilities when they pitch a tent for overnight stay with family. Thus the company’s tent will have all the basic features of a bedroom even as the lightweight structure can be disassembled quickly and raised on another location soon after.
“The tents will have enough space for either two or four occupants. When folded, they consume only 40 feet space, making it handy during travel,” said Sooraj Rajan, a co-founder of Campper, which provides services in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as well.
When spread out, the tent lends 160 sq-ft space in less than five hours. Campper co-founder Prabhil M.J. said those into hospitality industry can rent out the facility to travellers eager for a stay in tent. “Besides a toilet and cabinets, you can even fit a washbasin,” he added.
The innovative facility has the potential to woo family travellers looking for novel experiences, according to organisers of Kerala Innovation Week, conducted in association with Global Shapers Community, Kochi. An initiative of World Economic Forum, the event was part of the state government’s effort to propel the economy with new-age technology.
KSUM is the nodal agency of the Kerala government for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state.
