COONOOR:
A.V. Ramana, Chairman, Cochin Port Trust, and Paulrasu, Executive Director, Tea Board addressed the Tea Planters and Exporters of Coonoor on 26.12.2016 at the UPASI Committee Hall, Coonoor. The meeting was attended Dr. P. Tamilvanan, Advisor (Marketing), Cochin Port.
The Chairman presented the various initiatives taken by Cochin Port in making the business through Cochin Port better and more efficient. There are weekly Mainline direct shipping services from Cochin to various destinations in Europe, Middle East, China and CIS countries that saves about $ 100 per container and 7 days in transit time by avoiding transhipment at neighbouring foreign ports. The Chairman also referred to the Green Channel at Walayar Check Post allowing the exporters from west Tamil Nadu region to move their
export containers to ICTT without being subjected to checks.
Various Tea Exporters expressed satisfaction in routing their cargo through Cochin Port and endorsed that the facilities and the service standards at the ICTT are excellent and much superior to that at other Container Terminals.
The meeting was attended by the Traffic Manager and senior officials from Cochin Port Trust, officials from DP World, CONCOR ICD, Coimbatore, Chettinad ICD and C&F companies. The Chairman, Cochin Port Trust requested the trade to increase the volumes through Cochin Port. The Chairman assured the Tea Trade that Cochin Port Trust and DP World can address their concerns, if any, in promoting the volumes through Cochin Port.
