  • Drishti Lifesaving Services Ccollects 142930 kg Garbage from Beaches of Goa

    PANAJI:
    With Goa being in its peak tourist season and the state appointed garbage collection agency having stopped its services, the state government had reached out to Drishti Lifesaving Services to step in and assist with garbage collection along the beaches on a temporary basis.
    Accordingly, Drishti Lifesaving Services has offered its assistance and mobilized manpower and workers-are-given-gloves-masks-and-safety-jackets-as-a-part-of-their-safety-to-collect-the-garbageequipment for clearing garbage from the beaches of Goa starting 17 Dec 2016 and the same is being transported to the Saligao Waste Management plant.
    New Year celebrations in the holiday state have witnessed the beaches being littered with large amounts of garbage. Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd have stepped up efforts and collected approximate 33000kg of garbage between 1 st  January to 5 th  January.  The collection of the garbage takes place during the day between 9am to 6pm.     Ankit Somani, Managing Director, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd along with his team is leading efforts in this area. Said Ankit Somani, “Drishti Lifesaving Services is handling the beach cleaning on a temporary basis to support the effort of the Government from 17 th  December 2016. We are now assisting the state government by clearing the garbage of the beaches. Approximately 142930 kg of garbage has been collected from the day we started the work till today. Tractors are being placed at the beaches to collect garbage from the shacks and bins which are being segregated.  We are more than happy to have been off any assistance to the people of Goa and the Government. At Drishti we all love the ocean and beach, and any value we can add on that front gives us great satisfaction.”
    Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd have employed approximately 222 manpower on a daily basis to clear the
    garbage from the beaches.  The garbage collected is being transported to the Waste Management Site at Saligao from the following beaches: The garbage collection of the beaches has been divided into two parts – North and South. The South Goa beaches include Baina, Bogmollo, Velsao,  Hollant, Arrosim, Majorda, Utorda, Betalbatim, Colva, Benaulim, Varca, Zalor, Cavellosim, Mobor, Agonda, Pallolem, Patnem, Rajbagh, Talpona, Galgibag, Pollem. The North Goa beaches include Querim, Arambol, Ashwem, Mandrem, Morjim, Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, Candolim, Sinquerim, Miramar, Vaiguinim, Donapaula, Siridao and
    Bambolim.
    Upon a request from the state Government, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd is handling the beach cleaning on a temporary basis to support the effort of the Government. The agency has an existing framework which includes infrastructure and management capability to effectively carry out the exercise along the beaches.
