Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Union Minister of Railways dedicated the electrified section between Shoranur and Charvattur (224 Km) to the nation and inaugurated a host of passenger amenities at a function held at Ernakulam South Junction station.

Vashishta Johri, General Manager, Southern Railway, R.K.Bahuguna, Chief Managing Director, Railtel, K.V.V.Satyanarayana, Chief Project Manager, Railway Electrification, Prakash Butani, Divisional Railway Manager, Trivandrum, various dignitaries, Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway, Divisional Officers, and Special Invitees were present during the occasion at Ernakulam South Junction station.

Through video conferencing, the Union Railway Minister also inaugurated a new station building at Nilambur Road station in Palakkad Division in the presence of M.I.Shanavas, MP., P.V.Abdul Wahab, MP., Padmini Gopinath, Municipal Chairperson, Nilambur, T.Rajkumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad who were present at Nilambur Road Station.
At Ernakulam South Junction Railway Station, the Union Minister of Railways inaugurated a Free Emergency Medical Care Centre for providing speedy medical assistance for passengers during exigencies. The minister also dedicated to the nation a host of passenger amenities viz., Wi-Fi services, a Vegetarian Refreshment Room and an Air Conditioned Paid Waiting Room at Ernakulam South Junction Railway Station.
