  • GIM to Launch Facility for Girl Students

By NE Reporter on November 8, 2017

    KOCHI:
Great India Movement, an NGO that promotes innovative initiatives for social uplift, is launching a unique facility for girl students of the Mar Athanasius High School, Kakkanad on November 9.
Girl students of the school will now be beneficiaries of a one-of- its-kind toilet and restroom complex, built to international specifications, and aesthetically appealing. Dr T N Seema, former MP and vice chairman of the Haritha Keralam Mission will launch the unique facility at the school premises on November 9 at 3.30 pm.
P T Thomas MLA, K K Neenu, chairperson of the Thrikkakara Municipality, Mar Athanasius School manager Peter P Kurian, GIM chairman Mathew Tharakan and GIM vice president T Vinay Kumar will speak on the occasion. The project, involving an investment of Rs 10 lakh, has been conceived, created and maintained by GIM president, Sebastian Joseph Koottumkal and Sajitha Sebastian Koottumkal.
Importantly, they are also footing the maintenance costs of the complex, including the caretaker’s salary.
“We wanted to give the girl students to have a good grounding in toilet hygiene, so that in future they will be able to apply the same standards when they assume responsibilities as mothers. We have also taken care to ensure that the facility will stay in good condition by arranging for regular maintenance of the complex”, Sebastian Joseph Koottumkal said.
“Our key objectives in setting up this facility are to tackle the hygiene challenge that the nation is facing, and simultaneously uplift the girl child”, Sajitha Sebastian Koottumkal said. The 500 sqft toilet complex features eight toilets including one which is wheel chair-friendly.
The wash counters are granite-topped, and there is a sanitary napkin vending machine and an electric incinerator. Great India Movement (GIM) has plans to spread this facility to the girl students in the other parts of the country especially in undeveloped areas with the support of noble and kind hearted entrepreneurs and corporates.
