The Certificate Program in Management of Social Initiatives scientifically designed by leading academics of IIMK offered participants an opportunity to learn theory and practices of management with focus on managing social initiatives like Corporate Social Responsibility projects, NGO activities and social enterprises. The pedagogical approaches for this unique offering consist of a mix of lecture-discussions, case analysis, video projects and peer-learning as well as immersion in community based organizations, NGOs and social enterprises.

The first module comprised of 25 hours of in-campus classes delivered in one week at IIMK Kozhikode Campus, from 2-6 March 2020. The third module of 25 hours would comprise of immersion field trips in Kochi in various NGOs, Companies and Social enterprises. Speaking on the inauguration of the first leg of the programme, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM-Kozhikode, said “There is no contradiction between women who have opted for professional work and those who have stayed at ‘home’ – each one has a very vital role to play in all aspects of life of the community and society. This IIMK certificate programme has been specifically introduced to harness the potential of bright, talented women resources for the benefit of the society and the country at large, and help the members of Navy Wives Welfare Association pursue their passion for social welfare in more effective and fulfilling way.”

Adding further, Prof Priya Nair Rajeev, Programme Coordinator for the certificate programme said, “This program will help women from NWWA recognize their own social orientation, ideate on what they want to build with it, create an entrepreneurial mind-set and pick up managerial skills to give purpose and form to their aspirations. The uniqueness of this programme lies in its blending of classroom, online and immersion experiences to bring to speed the latest in different kinds of social initiatives and thereby enable participants choose their form of engagement with society and business. We see this program as an opportunity for women to think about who they want to be, what they want to do and the impact they hope to create.
