Kalasagar Awards 2017 Presented

THRISSUR:
Kalasagar awards instituted in memory of Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, founder of Kalasagar were presented on his 93rd birth anniversary to several artists, on 28 May at Regional Theatre, THrissur, Kerala.
The function was inaugurated by the noted play back singer P Jayachandran by lighting the traditional lamp. P Chithran Namboodiripad was the chief guest of the evening and presided over the proceedings. Natyacharya Padmavibhooshan V P Dhananjayan, Shanta Dhanajnyan, Kalamandalam Narayanan Nair were the guest of the of the evening. V Kaladharan, noted critic of Kathakali delivered the keynote address, and rich tributes were paid to Krishnankutty Poduval. Dr. N P Vijayakrishnan briefed the importance of the event and welcomed the audience. M P Mohanan, President, Kalasagar tendered the vote of thanks.
Apart from Kathakali actor Advocate Ranjini Suresh, Kathakali accompanists were also honoured. They included Nedumbulli Ram Mohan (Music), Kalanilayam Kunjunni (Chenda), KalamandalChakyaarkoothu), Dr. Kapila (Koodiyattam), Shyamala Surendran (Mohiniyattam), Sudha Peethambaran
(Bharathanatyam), Geetha Chandran (Kuchuppudi), Manjeri Haridas (Thayambaka), Kongad Radhakrishnan (Panchavadyam – Thimila), Kottakkal Ravi (Maddalam), Kavil Ajayan (Edakka), Cherppu Unnikrishnan (Thalam), Parakkattu Babu (Kombu). Leading artists like Sadanam Krishnankutty, Kottakkal Chandrasekhara Warrier, Kalamandalam Balasubramanian, Kalamandalam Ramachandranunnithan, Kalamandalam Harinarayanan, Ranjini Suresh, P D Namboodiri, Nedumubully Ram Mohan, Sadanam Jyothish, Kalamandalam Krishnadas, Kottakkal Prasad, Kottakkal Ravi, Kalamandalam Venu, Kalamandalam Sivaraman, Sadanam Anil and others participated in kathakali play Dakshayagam.
