KOZHIKODE:
Factoring in the dynamics of the technological and investment scenario of Kerala where startups have emerged as a key component, annual revision of the y is on the cards, M Sivasankar, Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of Kerala, said here today.
Inaugurating the third edition of Seeding Kerala event as part of the ongoing four-day conclave of the Kerala StartUp Mission, sivasankar said a yearly revisit of the IT sub-policies will enable the start up eco-system to become more dynamic.
“Now (there is), a need to devise sub policies on major themes has arisen as the ecosystem of the start ups in the state has become more dynamic.” Sivasankar said.
“A static five-year policy will be a stumbling block to such a system. Once the sub policies are chartered, they will be revised and updated once in every year, in the month of April and May. Hence, the first revisit of the sub policies will be conducted this April – May,” he said.
Sivsankar said that the ongoing meet will provide substantial inputs not only on what should get into while framing the policies but also put forth proper feedback on how they should be implemented and ensure a quick assessment.
While speaking on the ‘Role of HNIs in the uplifting the startup community’, Dr Saji Gopinath, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission, said apart from identifying the startups that can get funding, one of the major objectives of the KSUM will be to identify those high net worth individuals who can look at start ups as a potential option.
“The startup mission will also grant funds to those who come up with innovative and creative ideas,” he added.
Sushath Misra, Angel investor and Head of Lead Angels, noted that GST, Aadhar and demonetization have digitally bound the country into one and this has created a disciplined environment which will be of immense help for the startups.
“India has many positive aspects which will enhance the startup industry in the country. By 2025, India will be in the third position in terms of GDP. The spread of band width in the country is too huge that it has made India, the largest mobile data users in the world, “ he said.
“Societal changes are yet another positive change where the gap between the services availed by those residing in the small cities and metros will cease to exist. All these changes will be a huge advantage for the start ups to thrive.” Misra added.
Anil Joshy, Angel investor and Managing Partner, Unicorn India Ventures opined that currently, no other state in the country is on par with Kerala when it comes to offering the most favourable environment for startups to thrive.
The four – day conclave was organized by Kerala Startup Mission ( KSUM) to support young entrepreneurial aspirants by bringing together investors, venture capital providers, technical experts and policy planners, providing them with a window to showcase ideas and clinch the instant back-up for their realization.
