  • Kerala’s First Drupal Global Training Day (GTD) held at Technopark

By NE Reporter on October 6, 2018

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
    M. Sivasankar, Secretary, Electronics & Information Technology, has urged the IT community in Kerala to attract large investments to the State for the expansion of the technology ecosystem.
Inaugurating a training programme on Drupal, one of the most versatile free and open source content management systems, at Technopark here, he said Kerala Government has played a unique role in enabling this ecosystem in India. The state has set a goal of increasing IT exports and created Kerala a powerful brand and an attractive IT investment destination with the presence of major technology companies, he added.

International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS), an autonomous institution under the Government of Kerala mandated to promote free and open source software, has organized this training programme called “Drupal Global Training Day” (GTD), in partnership with Zyxware Technologies, a Kerala-based digital solutions provider. Zyxware Technologies is one of the top-ten global code contributors to Drupal.

Thomas P Thomas, CEO Zyxware Technologies, and Dr Jayasankar Prasad, Director of ICFOSS, were present on the occasion. This is for the first time that such a programme is being held in Kerala, for which ICFOSS has taken the initiative.

Decision makers from the government and business, who are interested in knowing and evaluating Drupal for their requirements, and others who are keen on getting a hands-on experience in Drupal attended the event.

The participants got an understanding of Drupal basics ,installation and also went through case study presentations and sessions. In addition to this, a mailing list and an on-line discussion group were set up to aid the participants. Drupal became an enterprise-grade Content Management Framework with the launch of Drupal 8 , which is equipped with all the necessary features needed for an enterprise.

A system with proven capability, the long list of reputed organizations using this CMS includes Pfizer, Saint-Gobain, RedHat, MTV UK, The Economist, University of Oxford, Harvard University, IIT Bombay, Government of India and Government of Australia. The Drupal community is one of the largest open source communities in the world, with more than 1,000,000 passionate developers, designers, trainers, strategists, coordinators, editors, and sponsors working together.

GTD is an initiative of Drupal Association, which represents the global Drupal community to introduce people to Drupal. The programme has been held in 86 locations around the world.
