By NE Reporter on November 8, 2019

    KOCHI:
Cochin Cancer Research Centre (CCRC) and Kerala Startup Mission jointly announced CanQuer2019, an annual symposium on oncology to be held at the Integrated Startup Complex, Kalamassery from 8 to 10 Nov 2019.

CanQuer2019 theme is “Technology to eliminate cancer care disparity”. The conference is held with the academic partnership of National Cancer Grid, Kerala Cancer Grid, Narayana Foundation, Cochin Oncology Group, Oral Cancer Task Force, Head and Neck Oncology Group, IMA, and IDA.

District collector Suhas, who is also the special Officer for the Cochin Cancer Research Centre said, “Cochin Cancer Research Centre is a research focussed cancer centre. Our priority is to develop a research programme that can be readily applied to patients. The technology conference is an overview of the research activities that we intend to implement in the institute.”

“We, at CCRC, are committed to reform cancer detection and diagnosis and enhance access to cancer treatment. Technology has become as critical as clinical research. We hope CanQuer2019 will inspire innovations and new approaches to tackle challenges surrounding cancer diagnostics, cure, and care.” stated Dr. Moni Abraham Kuriakose, Director, CCRC highlighting the objectives of the conference.

CanQuer2019 will have 100+ speakers and panelists and is expected to set a platform for ground-breaking research, latest technologies, digital disruptions, global best practices and case studies in cancer care and cure. The keynote and panels shall be driven by eminent faculties in cancer research, oncologists, industry leaders, technocrats and start-up entrepreneurs. The Conference would also bring under one umbrella the thought leaders, policymakers, clinical practitioners, pharma companies, technocrats and cancer care solution providers.

Talking about the focus on technology, Dr. Saji Gopinath, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission said, “Our objective is to propel innovation in cancer research and treatment by hand holding oncology-based tech start-ups. We are already building a dedicated Cancer technology Incubator at the Integrated Startup Complex. This incubator, Centre for Biomedical Research, Innovation and Commercialization in Cancer Care (BRIC) with focus on making cancer diagnosis and treatment affordable, will be mentored by CCRC.”

A Startup Showcase event is planned, where Oncology related startups will be demonstrating their products. The purpose is to strengthen clinician-industry collaborations for possible mentoring, piloting facilities, early adoption of the solution and various other symbiotic activities.

On the side-lines of CanQuer2019, a Cancer Innovation Hackathon is planned for Nov 9th and 10th, providing an opportunity for tech-enthusiasts to solve curated Industry problems in Cancer Care continuum.
