THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Milma has enhanced the subsidy on its cattle feed to Rs 100 per bag by announcing an additional quantum of Rs 30 per bag. In December last year, Milma had declared a subsidy of Rs 70 per bag of cattle feed.
The new price, which comes as a great boon to thousands of dairy farmers across the state, will come into effect from February 13, about which the dealers and retailers have been intimated.
The decision to further subsidise the cattle feed price was announced by P A Balan Master, Chairman, Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF) – Milma.
“Thousands of dairy farmers in the state will substantially benefit from this hefty increase in subsidy on our premium brands of cattle feed. The decision reflects Milma’s firm commitment to milk producers, a vast majority of whom are members of our co-operative societies”, said P A Balan Master.
Milma had earlier given a subsidy of Rs 40 per cattle-feed bags of 50 kg. From January 1 onwards, this subsidy was raised to Rs 70 per bag.
“We cannot ignore the contribution of dairy farmers in Kerala in attaining self-sufficiency in milk production. The additional component of subsidy will further augment the state’s milk industry,” he said.
The subsidies have been announced to lessen the financial difficulties being faced by the dairy farmers in the state following the crisis caused by Covid 19.
