  • Registration at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Open 2017 Commences

    PANAJI:
    Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club has partnered with the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA) to organise the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Open 2017. The annual state level tournament will be held on 22nd January to 29th January 2017.
    The event is supported by Arjun Gadre of the Gadre Group. The state level tournament will witness accomplished players battle it out on the courts once again as tennis fans will be entertained to another edition of charmaine-in-action-in-the-ladies-semi-finals-in-the-last-years-edition-of-clube-tennis-de-gaspar-dias-open-2016Clube Tennis de Gasper Dias. Matches will be scheduled between 7am and 10am in the morning and between 4pm and 10pm in the evening.
    The tournament includes ten categories – Under 12 (Girls and Boys), Under 16 (Girls and Boys), Men’s Singles, Ladies Singles, Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Veteran Singles and Veteran Doubles. Prizes collectively amounting to Rs. 50,000 will be awarded to winners in the various categories.
    Registrations in the various categories are now open. The last date for receiving entries is 18th January 2017 at 6.00pm. Interested players can access the forms from the website www.clubegasperdias.com or collect it from the club office.
    Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias has an interesting legacy spanning over 90 years. In 1934,  Josephine Hogaz, an
    American industrial entrepreneur, introduced the game of tennis in Goa. She also provided the finance for the making of the first tennis court in the Club premises. This game gained in popularity with its members leading to the introduction of another court a few years later.
    Over the past 80 years under the leadership of various individuals, the club has innovated and improved meeting to the requirement of its members. Further, the club offers facilities for playing badminton, squash, table tennis, billiards and tennis within its premises.
