Kochi: Temporary staff of State bank of Travancore will be retrenched as as part of its merger with State Bank of India. It is learnt that more than 1,000 peons and sweepers of SBT will lose their jobs.
A circular to this effect has been issued to all the branches of SBT.
The circular asked the branch managers not to make any new appointments at the branch level.
This drastic action will be repeated at the branches of the other five Associate Banks which have also been taken over by SBI.
Meanwhile, unions of bank employees have called for a strike on July 12 and 13 to protest against the merger.
