  • Southern Railway GM Holds Meeting with MPs

    MADURAI:
    R.K. Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway had conducted meeting at Madurai, with Members of Parliament whose constituencies falls in Madurai and Tiruchchirappalli Railway Divisions.
    Meenu Ittyerah, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division, Uday Kumar Reddy, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchchirappalli Division, Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway participated in the meeting.
    The General Manager appraised the MPs of several important works completed by Madurai and Tiruchchirappalli divisions, such as Passenger amenity works, Introduction of new train services, Extension of trains and Additional stoppages provided.
    The General Manager also said the lift at Dindigul and Madurai alongwith Foot over Bridges, new waiting halls at Rameswaram and additional platform shelter at Tuticorin, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli and improvement at Punalur, Kottarakara and Kundara will soon be provided. Work has also been proposed for Foot over bridge at Avaneeswaram and extension of platform on the Quilon – Punalur section to 18 bogies.
    The MP from Kollam N.K. Premachandran, reiterated the need to complete the Gauge conversion work between Edaman and New Aryankavu and reintroduce trains which was used to run prior to Gauge conversion, over this section.
    The MP from Madurai R. Gopalakrishnan, stressed the need for providing necessary facilities at Koodal Nagar and stoppage of Pandian Express at Koodal Nagar station. The MP of Ramanathapuram A. Anwhar Raajhaa, requested the Railways to provide stoppage of Ayodhya Express at Ramanathapuram. He also wanted the Railways to run additional trains from Rameswaram, especially between Coimbatore and Rameswaram.
    MP PR. Senthilnathan wanted to be updated on the progress of new line project within his constituency and requested for frequency of Silambu Express to be increased. MP from Pollachi C. Mahendran raised the issue of slow progress in the construction of Road Over Bridge and wanted the Railways to speed up this work. He also wanted the better facilities at Udumalaipet as well as stoppage of Amirtha Express at the station.
    MP from Theni R. Parthiban urged the Railway to speed up the new survey for the new line between Dindigul and Sabarimala. MP, Tenkasi M. Vasanthi, welcomed the commitment of the Railways for completion of Gauge conversion work on Sengottai-Punalur section. She also urged the Railways to run a day express train between Sengottah and Coimbatore and improve the platforms at Srivilliputhur and Pamba koil Shandy.
    Rajya Sabha MP Vijila Sathyananth, wanted speeding up of trains and introduction of new train from Ramewaram to Coimbatore.
    The GM in response to the request of MPs stated that with the commissioning of double line on the Madurai-Maniyachi-Tuticorin and Maniyachi-Nagecoil-KanniyakumarI-Thiruvananthapuram section would meet several of the unmet demands for additional trains for the southern region. The GM further assured in response to the demands put forth by the MPs that the above demands would be looked into and speeded up.
