THRISSUR:
Minister for Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs E P Jayarajan, will inaugurate construction works of I M Vijayan Indoor Stadium and Sports Complex at Laloor on February 26, at 3 pm.
The stadium has been planned as part of the Government’s policy of developing sports infrastructure across the state, giving a thrust to sporting aspirations at the grass roots.
Agriculture Minister V S Sunil kumar will preside over the function. Local Administration minister A C Moideen will honour the sports personalities from the region. Thrissur Mayor Ajitha Vijayan will deliver the keynote address.
Members of Parliament C N Jayadevan, PK Biju, Innocent, K Rajan, MLA, Mary Thomas, president, district panchayat, T P Dasan, president, State Sports Council and Sajayan Kumar, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs will attend the function.
The Indoor Stadium and Sports Complex was proposed in the 2016-17 modified budget, as one of the projects of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The Stadium and Sports Complex will come up at the 14.07 acre land of Thrissur Corporation at a cost of Rs 46.47 crore.
The Sports Complex will have synthetic turf, gallery, football ground, pavilion building, indoor stadium, swimming pool, tennis court, administration block and rainwater harvesting facility. KITCO Ltd will be constructing the stadium complex under the technical supervision of the Engineering Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
