  • Strong Need for a Bold Strike Against AMR: Experts During Criticare 2025

By NE Reporter on March 12, 2025

    KOCHI:
At the 31st annual national conference of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM), CRITICARE 2025, leading experts across the country gathered to discuss the urgent health issue of Antimicrobial Resistance. During the conference, the experts Dr Bharat Jagiasi, General Secretary of ISCCM and Dr Pradip Bhattacharya, President of ISCCM emphasized on the need for innovation in therapeutics to combat AMR.

During the press conference, ISCCM General Secretary, Dr. Bharat Jagiasi addressed critical issues, highlighting alarming statistics, mortality rates, and the devastating economic impact of AMR in India. He emphasized the rise of multidrug-resistant organisms and the profound challenges they pose to modern medicine. The conference showcased recent advancements in novel anti-infectives and underscored the critical need to develop groundbreaking solutions to overcome the limitations of current antibiotics, setting the stage for future research and development.

Stressing on the urgent need for innovation in therapeutics to combat AMR, Dr Pradip Bhattacharya said, “It is highly imperative that the novel anti-infectives are developed at a faster pace and are made available to numerous patients. These innovative anti-infectives are intended to combat resistant pathogens through novel mechanisms of action that are different from the traditional anti-infectives available in the market. Moreover, there is a need to pump up investment in developing these life-saving drugs.”

Inspiring success stories, such as the Kerala model on AMR, were shared by the experts during the press briefing. Highlighting the successful Kerala model, that focused on reducing antibiotics overuse, Dr Jaicob Varghese, Joint Organizing Chairperson, ISCCM, shared, “The Kerala model reflected the power of collaboration and strategic partnerships to drive the behavioural change of reducing antibiotic overuse and rampant sale of antibiotics without prescription.

The Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) inaugurated CRITICARE 2025 in Kochi, a five-day powerhouse event that began from March 5. Leading global experts, researchers, and clinicians converged to confront one of humanity’s most urgent health crisis. CRITICARE 2025 solidified its position as a pivotal event in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

CRITICARE 2025 proved to be a dynamic and impactful event, driving progress in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, and the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) reaffirmed its deep commitment to leading the charge against AMR and fostering a healthier future for all. Criticare 2025 wasn’t just talk; it was action. Pre-conference workshops on March 5th and 6th offered hands-on training in critical areas like specialized sessions for nurses and technicians.

“CRITICARE 2025 underscored the vital role of collaboration and knowledge sharing in the fight against antimicrobial resistance,” stated Dr. Bharat Jagiasi. “We witnessed experts from diverse backgrounds uniting to forge innovative solutions.”
