By NE Reporter on April 12, 2018

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Southern Railway is launching mobile application based paperless ticket facility for the passengers of Thiruvananthapuram division from 14th April 2018.
The mobile App is called “UTS on MOBILE”. Passengers can download the application in their mobile from Google Play store/Apple/Microsoft store depending on the smart phone OS and avail unreserved tickets using R Wallet(Railway Wallet), which is an e-payment mode of Railways with no service charges.
The App can be used to take paperless unreserved tickets, purchase/renew season tickets and also take platform tickets, by using a smart phone with GPS and Internet connectivity. Once the passenger takes the ticket in paperless option, the image of the ticket is downloaded to the phone. This image can displayed during ticket checking.
The image is non transferable and linked to the IMEI of the smart phone from which the ticket is taken. In order to take a mobile ticket using “UTS on Mobile App” from a station, the passenger has to be in the geo-fence area of the station which is 25 meters away from the railway track/station and within a radius of five kilometers of the railway station. This facility is provided through GPS based ‘geo fencing’ feature.
After extensive testing the facility is being launched at Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kanniyakumari, Kottayam, Nagercoil Jn, Ernakulam Jn, Kulitturai, Varkala shivagiri, Alappuzha, Chengannur, Kayamkulam Jn, Kollam Jn, Tiruvalla, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram central, Changanassery, Guruvayur, Kochuveli (Total 18) railway stations of Thiruvananthapuram Division from Saturday, (14/4/2018). Eventually, this will be provided at all other stations of the division to help passengers avoid the long queue at ticket counters and travel hassle free. Introduction of the App based Unreserved ticketing feature will be beneficial to around 1 lakh daily unreserved ticket users in the division.
Helpdesks will be set up at railway stations with the active participation of Passenger Associations in order to familiarize passengers with the features of the app and to facilitate installation of the App.
