  • Vital to Meet International Norms in Designs of Products: Experts

By NE Reporter on February 27, 2018

    KOCHI:
A workshop on “fundamentals of microwave electronics”, organised by the Kochi-based hardware incubator Maker Village here today, emphasised that it is vital for start-ups as well as industries to gain the international certification for the designs of their products in a highly competitive market.
The workshop, held at Kerala Technology Innovation Zone, Kinfra Hi-tech Park, was organised jointly with Society for Applied Microwave Electronic Engineering and Research (SAMEER), set-up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and Chennai-based Centre for Electromagnetics (CEM) under it. The programme was structured to give valuable insights to startup companies and industrialists on adding the components at the early stage of designing a product, which is crucial to obtain the certifications.
It was led by G. Mahesh and Dr Sanjay Baisakhiya, scientists from SAMEER, Chennai.
“Those who are in the manufacturing of a product should be aware of the certification process and this would help in designing a product with these components at an early stage. The issue of getting international certification of a product could be addressed if they are aware of the norms”, said Dr Sanjay Baisakhiya.
According to Mahesh, SAMEER serves Indian and global industries in applied research and development, design consultancy, testing and training with the support of experienced and qualified engineers and technicians. The focus of the workshop was creation of awareness on the services offered by SAMEER in Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC) and their standard, measurement, product design, testing and development, he said.
“One of the primary requirements of obtaining certification is following design practices that follow EMI/EMC standards. The workshop helped introduce the best practices in the area to the industry, startups and students”, said Rohan Kalani, COO, Maker Village.
SAMEER, formed to promote research and development in Microwave Electronics and CEM, has established itself in the field of Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility for than 25 years.
Maker Village, the largest electronics incubator in India, is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) and Kerala government.
