In an effort to reduce the carbon footprint and to contribute to the sustainability of the environment, students and faculty of V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) celebrated Van Mahotsav by planting various medicinal and fruit saplings supplied by the Forest Department, South Goa.
Van Mahotsav, celebrated across India to create enthusiasm among masses for forest conservation and planting trees, is now a week-long festival, which is celebrated on different days usually in the first week of July coinciding with the monsoon season.
VMSIIHE lays a lot of emphasis on following eco-friendly practices like rain water harvesting and garbage segregation. Van Mahotsav was celebrated with the intention of creating awareness among the present generation on the importance of planting trees and giving back to the nature.
The celebration was graced by Prof. Irfan Mirza, Director and Principal, VMSIIHE, Bhaskar Nayak, Advisor- Education, VMSalgaocar Corporation and former Director of Higher Education, Dr. Marie Raj, Administrator, VMSIIHE, faculty, staff and students.
Sujatha Madhavan, Asst. Prof.- Food Production briefed the staff and students about the significance of growing trees and nurturing them for the benefit of mankind.
VMSIIHE was recently declared the cleanest college for the second consecutive year. The institute was honoured with the ‘Swachchatam Mahavidyalaya Samman’ from amongst 35 institutes affiliated to the Goa University.
The institute sets the bar for cleanliness through eco-friendly practices. The state-of-the-art campus spread across 6 acres of lush greenery surrounded by green fields is situated approximately 30 kms from the capital city Panaji, 5 kms from Margao and 25 kms from the airport. The Institute offers B.Sc. International Hospitality Management (3 Year Degree) and the campus is the perfect place for a student to learn and be nurtured into hotel management professionals and hospitality leaders of the future.
