KOCHI:
Even as actor Dileep continues in prison in connection with the actress’ assault case, his movie ‘Ramaleela’ hit cinemas across the country on Thursday. The release was postponed several times fearing negative response from the public.
Heavy rush was witnessed at the theatres, the majority fans of the actor, for the much-awaited multi-crore film.
There were serious discussion whether the movie would be received by the public as the hero was arrested in real life in connection with the abduction and assault of a South Indian actress.
The film industry was also anxiously waiting to know the response of the film. hough its makers had recently moved the court seeking protection for theatres screening ‘Ramaleela’, they failed to get any relief.
“Ramaleela” is directed by debutant Arun Gopi and produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam. It’s approximate budget was Rs 15 crore.
Dileep plays the role of protagonist Ramanunni in the film which is developed after he is accused in a murder case. Prayaga Martin, Renji Panicker, Mukesh and Vijayaraghavan are the other prominent actors.
Dileep’s former wife Manju Warrier’s latest movie ‘Udaharanam Sujatha’, a remake of Tamil film ‘Amma Kanakku’, was also released on Thursday. When there was a campaign on the social media and outside calling for a boycott of ‘Ramaleela’, Manju Warrier had come out in support of the movie and said in a Facebook post that personal likes and dislikes should not affect a film that involves many lives and careers.
Meanwhile, Angamaly magistrate court again extended the remand of actor Dileep to October 12. The remand was extended at a time when the High Court was considering the bail application forwarded by Dileep. Earlier, when Dileep moved the High Court for bail, Justice Sunil Thomas said that though the accused severed jail term for a few days there was no major change in circumstances.
