  • PMI Pune – Deccan India Chapter Hosts the Fourth PMI India Conference 2018

By NE Reporter on March 13, 2018

    PUNE:
A change in our future digital landscape will have both an exciting and disruptive impact on businesses and society. The development of automation enabled by technologies including robotics, artificial intelligence and compounded by the ever amplifying performance of these computing technologies will mean that productivity will be much higher and at the same time will raise difficult questions about the broader impact on jobs, skills, salaries, and the nature of work itself. Keeping this in mind, PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter had organized the 4th PMI India Project Management Regional Conference in Pune on the theme, ‘’Achieving Business Transformation through Project Management’’.
The conference highlighted how proven project management techniques could be used to achieve business transformation and help organizations make a higher impact on the region’s and the country’s economy in this disruptive age. The objective of the conference was to bring thought leaders, industry experts, and professionals to discuss strategies to transform organizations required to sustain and grow in this New World Order. The conference provided an excellent networking platform for more than 400 delegates who are project leaders and practitioners from various domains.
Commenting on the objective of the event, Raj Kalady, Managing Director, Project Management Institute, India said, “The world is getting more connected, and thus more intricate. It is important to change old thinking, models, and processes for decision-making to handle the massive increase in shorter-term unpredictability – while still keeping our eyes on the long term. It is important to think strategically about the transformational role of project management. Hence, there is no better time than now to have a conference on this theme.’’
The conference showcased renowned speakers from various industries and domains sharing their insights and experiences on the dramatic set of changes and how project management can help in business transformation. Some of the keynote speakers of the conference included Suresh Naik, Director, Space Science Chairman International Space Society, President, Vijnan Bharati, Pune; Anand Kumar, Founder- Super 30 Program | Mathematician; and International speaker Stephen Townsend, Director of Network Programs Project Management Institute. The invited speakers included P.G. Waray, Executive Director – Engineering and Project Execution, ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions (India); Sriram Narayansami, Vice President, Commercial – Maersk; and Milind Mutalik, Vice President –HR, Desai Brothers Ltd. (Mother’s Recipe). The featured speaker this year was Revathi Roy, Founder & CEO – Hey DeeDee, India’s first all-women logistics services company.
Commenting on the objectives of the conference Rajarama Rao B, Conference Chair and President and CEO, PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter said. “We are currently in a situation in the industry, where a lot of disruptions are taking place and organizations across sectors are working hard for transforming themselves to stay relevant. In PMI, we believe that operations run a business, but it is projects that change business. For managing the disruptions, there is a need for greater responsiveness and ingenuity by business leaders and project professionals to stay relevant to the challenge of time and continue to deliver value, guard market share, and outsmart competition by unifying strategy, technical project management, and leadership. It’s in this context; we thought it most appropriate to keep the focus of this year’s conference as “Achieving Business Transformation through Project Management’’.
Addressing the project practitioners at the conference, Stephen Townsend, Director of Network Programs, PMI, Global Headquarters said, “I am excited to be here with you, and I am also excited that the team that we have in India, is doing an incredible job in helping to raise awareness and build an understanding of why project management is important for India’s future. We have an opportunity to change, we have an opportunity to bring about a transformation in how organizations deliver their strategy, and that transformation comes from you. You are not project managers—that may be your title—you are transformers.”
