  • Adani Ports Receives CSR Excellence Award for Kerala Floods Support

By NE Reporter on December 10, 2018

    AHMEDABAD:
Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd received the prestigious Indywood Special CSR Excellence Award – Hall of Fame 2018 for its contribution towards relief and rebuilding work during the Kerala Floods. Adani Foundation, the CSR, sustainability and community outreach arm of the Adani Group, has committed INR 50 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to aid the state in its herculean task of helping the people rebuild their lives.

Rajesh Jha, MD & CEO, Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd. and Dr. Anil Balakrishnan, Unit CSR Head, Adani Foundation, received the award at the felicitation ceremony in Hyderabad.

Speaking about the exercise, Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson, Adani Foundation said, “I am glad that our efforts during Kerala Floods have been recognised. Our people as well as volunteers have shown inspiring commitment when our fellow citizens needed it the most. The selfless service by our teams, especially from Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd., is a testament to our perseverance and commitment towards nation-building.”

Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd. took up the mantle of Kerala Floods Relief and Rebuilding efforts through Adani Foundation. In showing a concerted commitment, the Group’s employees also pledged a day’s salary to express solidarity with the state’s distressed people.

Adani Foundation also pressed into service its Mobile Healthcare Van. With flood waters starting to recede, there was a serious health concern developing in the region. To help prevent outbreak of epidemics, the Mobile Healthcare Van ready with a doctor, pharmacist, support staff and social workers provided health service at various relief camps.

The on-ground teams worked relentlessly, participating in rescue coordination and flood relief activities in the worst affected areas. The team consisting of staff and volunteers, travelled through nights to remote villages distributing thousands of relief kits that included rations, clothes and other necessary supplies. Later the efforts continued in the relief camps. Once the flood waters receded, the houses, school buildings, hospital buildings and even places of worships needed massive cleaning efforts. Adani Foundation formed a dedicated team that focused on the task.

Adani Foundation the CSR, sustainability and community outreach arm of the Adani Group, has been the largest contributor after the Government of India towards the reconstruction endeavour in Kerala in the aftermath of the devastating floods in August 2018.
