IIM Kozhikode Imparts Management and Governance Training

A five-day training programme on ‘Leadership 4.0 -Management and Governance in the Emerging World of Digital Leadership’, conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) under The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, concluded here recently. 30 participants from 23 partner countries were trained in scientific aspects of leadership and management under this programme funded by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). IIMK Kozhikode first hosted ITEC participants in 2019 and this is the 6th batch of delegate participants to have visited Kozhikode for an in-Campus offline training programme.

The 5-day programme was an exploration for the following four themes that constitute the four disciplines of Leadership 4.0: Authenticity (Closing the gap between you and your own reality), Connectivity (Creating resonance), Productivity (The art of undoing), Possibility (Changing mental models). Classroom sessions consisting of immersion networking events were conducted by IIMK expert faculty members led by Director Prof. Debashis Chatterjee and covered themes ranging from: Mindful Leadership, Indian Economy, Creativity for social Innovation, Negotiation Skills, Communicating in a Disruptive World, Finance and Non-finance Managers to Communication in Disruptive World.

Speaking on the conclusion of the programme Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, thanked the MEA for their support in conducting the Institute’s sixth such in-campus ITEC programme and also the participants for their active contribution in knowledge-sharing during the course of the programme. Summing up he added “India’s biggest contribution to the world has been knowledge and our country has lot to offer when it comes to innovations & community driven initiatives. Education, knowledge and wisdom are expressions of India’s soft power. This ITEC programme with an intensive take on leadership and management has equipped the participants with unparalleled skills”. He also added that India is on the cusp of a new revolution with its literate, skilled human capital of 1.4 Billion people and that the country continues its firm belief in the power of multilateralism in a conflict-ridden world.

Leadership 4.0 was attended by 30 delegate participants from diverse backgrounds from 23 partner countries – Chile, Maldives, Myanmar, Brazil, Ghana, Cambodia, Paraguay, Guatemala, Guyana, Nepal, Thailand, Turkey, Kenya, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Botswana, Philippines, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Dominican Republic. A full day study tour with field visits to the neighbouring Wayanad district was also organised for the foreign delegates to help them gain insights in to hugely successful community driven initiatives like the ‘Nenmeni Sudha Jala Vitharana Society’ project along with a visit to the Achoor Tea factory & Tea Museum. Later a cultural tour to explore the Indian handicrafts and traditions through visit to Sargaalaya, Kerala Arts & Crafts Village was also organised by IIMK for the participants.

Expressing their gratitude to Ministry of External Affairs, IIM Kozhikode and India as the host country in particular, the delegate participants of the ITEC programmes recounted their rich learning from the Leadership 4.O programme and the community driven initiatives demonstrated during the field visit and pledged to share and propagate this Indian experience in their respective countries, as true ambassadors of thought.
