THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala’s celebrated rise to the top of national social indices was not entirely the result of administrative reforms by the political parties that have ruled over the State, but only a furtherance of the visionary work done by the rulers of erstwhile Travancore, said Dr G. Gopakumar, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kerala, Kasargod.
The seasoned academician made this observation during a lecture given to the new batch of IAS aspirants of Amrita Civil Service Academy (ACSA) in Cotton Hill Road, Vazhuthacaud, on Saturday.
“Despite the rise of identitarian politics, divisive attitudes pertaining to caste have waned although the same cannot be said about religion,” Dr Gopakumar said. “The impact of globalisation has resulted in a call for at least some nations to come together and resist new hegemonies. In fact, global terrorism could also be attributed to a whole tissue of apprehensions that many nations have,” he added.
Following his talk, Dr Gopakumar gave insightful answers to the questions posed by the aspirants.
Academy Chairman Prof. K. Gopalakrishnan presided over the function. Director of Administration S. Jayakumar proposed the vote of thanks.
