VIJAYAWADA:
As many as 220 spices farmers from five districts of AP had a unique market linkage experience at the Buyer Seller Meet organized by the Spices Board in Vijayawada today.
Minister for Agriculture, Andhra Pradesh, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy who inaugurated the meet called for timely response from the farmers to the marketing opportunities enabled for them. He praised the initiatives of the Spices Board in creating sustainable models in chillies, turmeric, pepper, curry leaf, tamarind, ajwain and coriander. Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) Chairperson Gadde Anuradha suggested permanent Buyer Seller arrangements in principal marketing centres.
The Andhra Pradesh State Horticulture and Sericulture Commissioner, Chiranjeev Choudhary remarked that the initiatives of the Spices Board will create sustainable models for the future development in spices in the State.
Spices Board Marketing Director P.M. Suresh Kumar said that AP is an important contributor in spices exporters. Dr. P S Sreekantan Thampi, Deputy Director, proposed vote of thanks. The Buyer Seller meet was attended by nearly 25 exporters from different places of the country.
Farmers came from Araku, Paderu, Chinthapalli regions of Visakhapatnam district, besides from Ananthapur, Kurnool, Kadapa, Prakasam and Guntur. Representatives of five Farmer Producer Organisations were also present. Most of the farmer groups recorded good trade enquiries for pepper, turmeric, chillies, curry leaves, coriander and ajwain. Exporters who participated in the meet said they were amazed at the turnout of farmers at the meeting.
