NEW YORK:
International students in the US are in for a shock as the Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made it clear that they would have to leave the country if their Universities switch to online classes, according to a report by CNN. The decision is in view of the uncertainty following the Covid-19 pandemic.
This would affect thousands of international students from India who are now pursuing their studies in the US and those who are planning to join the Fall Semester. It should be noted that most universities including Harvard have decided to deliver all course instruction online. At first glance, this may be a convenient choice for both universities and students during the period of Covid-19 restrictions. However, the US Immigration authorities are looking at this issue differently.
The reported move is to deport students who are not attending in-person classes at the universities. This unexpected announcement will put the future of many international students in jeopardy as they have already invested in their education in the US. Moreover, it casts a shadow over their American dreams.
