THRISSUR:
Dairy farmers from across the state are benefiting from a range of facilities at a stall put up by public-sector Kerala Feeds Limited (KFL) at the February 10-15 ‘Padavu 2023’ that strives to catalyse government’s efforts towards self-sufficiency in milk production.
Inaugurated jointly by Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister J. Chinchurani and Revenue Minister K. Rajan in the presence of MLA P. Balachandran, the stall at the Dairy Expo at Veterinary College in Mannuthy has a daily lucky-draw scheme that gives gold coins besides consolation prizes to the dairy farmers at the six-day event.
Besides, registered farmers are eligible for discount coupons that entitles them to buy KFL products at rebates from the PSU’s outlets anywhere in the state. The KFL stall at ‘Padavu 2023’ also facilitates purchase of the company’s Keramin, which is a mineral mixture that improves milk yield and quality besides reproductive efficiency and disease resistance.
“The idea is to boost the morale of the dairy farmer,” said K. Sreekumar, Chairman of KFL headquartered at Kallettumkara near Irinjalakuda in this district. “We want to reinforce the value of their role in the economy.”
The stall runs a video on LED screen, where beneficiaries of KFL’s initiatives appear and narrate their real-life stories of improved livelihood. A star presence among them is film actor Jayaram, who is also the brand ambassador of KFL.
KFL has also set a ‘selfie point’ at one corner, where the visitor or farmer can click one’s images along with the life-size figure of a cow, which Jayaram named ‘Midukki’. Two doll-like ‘comic cows’ pose in greeting postures, welcoming people.
Ernakulam Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (ERCMPU) of the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) Chairman M.T. Jayan and KFL Managing Director Dr B. Sreekumar were among others present at the weekend’s inauguration of the stall.
At a KFL cultural evening on Saturday, actor Jayaram led the lucky-draw, announcing four winners of the day.
The 1995-founded KFL manufacturers products for various breeds of cows with the aim of keeping them in good health as well as better productivity and quality of milk.
