  • Germany has Plenty of Openings for Skilled Professionals: German Ministers

By NE Reporter on October 28, 2024

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Germany holds plenty of job opportunities for skilled professionals in various streams including healthcare, Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Hubertus Heil and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock of Germany revealed during an interactive session at Max Mueller Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday.

Two trained nurses from Kerala, both German language learners of Goethe-Zentrum in the state capital, were among those who attended the interaction, held as part of the official visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to India, along with a large delegation of German companies.

Muthulakshmi P Uthaman from Chalakkudi and Archana Aji from Kottayam, elated at the opportunity they received, said the Ministers talked about the career opportunities in Germany for skilled professionals, including paramedics.

Both are German language course students of TripleWin-Project jointly organized by Goethe-Zentrum, GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) and NorkaRoots, the state overseas employment promotion agency.

The students sought to know from the visiting dignitaries about the career opportunities in Germany, especially for paramedics and skilled professionals. One of them also shared the dais with the Ministers at the event held in the national capital on Friday. Dr. Marla Stukenberg – Regional Director of the Goethe-Institut, South Asia Region, was also present.

Recalling the meeting, an excited Muthulakshmi said Germany is eagerly looking for qualified Indian professionals in all fields. “The Ministers offered all facilities and hassle-free documentation process for jobs and migration. They asked me about my concerns as a nurse and I responded satisfactorily,” she said.

Hailing from a remote village, Muthulakshmi said the meeting gave them both a life-time experience, apart from the opportunity to travel on a flight for the first time.

What made the event the most special for Muthulakshmi is that she shared the dais with the German Ministers during the interaction where students and representatives of other Goethe-Institut across the country were also present.

Archana, who is gung-ho about the event, said the audience broached various topics including part-time jobs, education and medical fields during the interaction.

“In the meeting, we could frankly express our views and concerns. They need experienced and skilled workforce from here. We were assured that visa processes will be digitalised in a bid to attract skilled labour force and ensure fair migration,” she added.

The interaction was a good experience for Archana, who is off to Germany next month as a nurse.

The students were proud to represent Goethe-Zentrum in the meeting and thanked the institution for making their accommodation and journey memorable. Goethe-Zentrum is part of the worldwide network of the Goethe-Institut and has branches in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
