Commemoration of Arrival of First Ship to the Modern Port of Cochin

Cochin Port Day 2018 was celebrated on May 25 at Samudrika Hall, Willingdon Island. Justice P. Sathasivam, Governor of Kerala was Chief Guest on the occasion.
P. Nageswara Rao, Chief Commissioner of Central Tax, Central Excise & Customs delivered key note address. The function was presided by A. V. Ramana, Chairman (i/c), Cochin Port Trust. Prakash Iyer, President, Cochin Steamer Agents Association, A. A. Abdul Azees, President, Cochin Customs Brokers Association, Gautam Gupta, Traffic Manager and G Vaidyanathan, Chief Engineer of Cochin Port Trust spoke on the occasion. Trustees of Cochin Port Trust, representatives from the Trade, employees and pensioners of the Port & their families were present.
Awards were given to the Best Performing Port Users and Outstanding employees of the Port. This was followed by variety entertainment program presented by the employees and family members.
“MV Lagoons’, passenger ship and the Coast Guard ship berthed BTP Jetty were visited by thousands of people. ‘Cochin Port Day’ is celebrated in commemoration of the entry of first ship into Cochin Harbour. The construction of the inner harbour from the year 1921 is deemed as the
transformation of Cochin as a modern and safe Port. The first ship-SS Padma entered the inner harbour through the widened and deepened Cochin Gut on 26 th May 1928.
