Ernakulam South Fully Divyang Friendly Station

Ernakulam South railway station, will provide hassle free access to services at the railway station to Divyang Passengers.
By implementing ‘Divyangjan Project’ Careful and meticulous planning had converted the station into a Fully Divyang Friendly Railway Station with CSR participation of Mathrubhumi group. Exclusively earmarked Divyangjan car parking space is available near the Ticket Counter.
Wheel chairs can be used from this point to the train compartment of all the platforms. There are dedicated ramps for entering the station building, offices, waiting hall, wash rooms and also accessibility provided to all the platforms through trolley paths.
At platforms, movable train ramps provide effortless access for the wheel chair to roll on into the coach. A divyangjan facilitation counter “Divyang Corner” serves the divyang for any assistance and here detailed LED display boards display the layout of the station and facilities available at the station for the divyang passengers.
A Mobile phone number 9400555138 is available for getting assistance of Rail Sahayaks. This phone will be handled by the batch incharge of Rail Sahayaks round the clock at Ernakulam South station to assist divyang passengers at the station.
Also battery operated cars are available for the assistance of passengers. The facilities were dedicated on 6th January 2018 in the presence of Prof N R Menon, Emeritus Professor, School of Marine Services Cusat, R Harikrishnan, Station Director & Area Manager, Ernakulam, P Sindhu- Mathrubhumi Unit Manager, Jobi Mathew, International Arm Wrestling champion and Virali Modi the voice of Divyang passengers who started the online campaign #mytraintoo.
Mathrubhumi Group provided funding support for the ‘Divyangjan project’ under their CSR initiative. The work has been coordinated by the Commercial Department of Trivandrum Division.
Portable Ramps at Ernakulam South for access of wheel chairs to trains were sponsored by Malayala Manorama. These ramps were introduced for the first time at Thiruvananthapuram Central in association with lions club.
Member of Parliament Suresh Gopi has agreed to sponsor the movable ramps in other major stations (at an approximate cost of Rupees 4 lakhs). Alumini Association of St.Teresas College, Ernakulam donated Battery Operated Cars to the railway station.
Railways aim is to associate with Divyang driven NGOs, Associations and Media so that the facilities are well implemented. With the recent initiative of introduction of app based taxi services, many restaurants being open at railway stations, parking provided by Kudumbashri, AC paid waiting halls and Free emergency medical centers, Trivandrum division is now one of the most passenger friendly division in Indian Railway.
