Godrej & Boyce and CII-IGBC Leads the Green Building Movement

Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, and the Confederation of Indian Industries -Indian Green Building Congress (CII-IGBC) have been leading the Green Building movement in India since 2004. Together, they built and established the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (CII-Godrej GBC), the first green building in India in Hyderabad and the greenest building in the world. CII – IGBC along with Godrej & Boyce has also announced the IGBC Net Zero Waste Rating System for Buildings and Built Environment. This would enable a National standard on Waste management and
enable the creation of a world-class reference guide of ‘Net Zero Waste’ and drive the Zero waste movement in the country.

Godrej & Boyce, over the last ten years, has invested more than INR 500 crores towards its ESG initiatives with a focus on creating a positive impact on people, the planet and profits. In continuation with their ESG initiatives, they regularly participate in the annual Green Building Congress as premier supporters to drive the importance of sustainable green buildings and infrastructure through its various businesses, namely – Godrej Interio (Greenco rated furniture solutions), Godrej Material Handling (electric forklifts), Godrej Appliances (energy-efficient appliances), Godrej Construction (recycled concrete materials) and Godrej Electricals & Electronics’ LoB’s of Green Consulting and Energy Management and MEP (green infrastructure services).

Godrej Construction has been driving and propagating the Lean Philosophy under the leadership of Anup Mathew, Senior Vice President & Business Head and member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Lean Construction Excellence (ILCE), India, to bring about a cultural change with an intent to reduce waste at its construction sites. With his contributions spanning over 25 years, he was also recently felicitated by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) with the ‘IGBC Fellow Award 2021’ for his immense contribution to the Indian Green Building Movement. Under the Guidance of Anup Mathew, CII-IGBC has also developed the IGBC Net Zero Waste Rating System for Buildings and Built Environment. Shashi Ray, from Godrej Green Consulting and Energy Management, was also awarded the IGBC Green Fellow award for this contribution towards the green building project which spans over 15 years.

Commenting on being honoured by the Indian Green Building Council for the IGBC Fellow Award, Anup Mathew, Sr. Vice President & Business Head, Godrej Construction said, “I am delighted and greatly honoured to be chosen by IGBC for the prestigious ‘IGBC Fellow Award’. Godrej & Boyce has pioneered the Green Building movement in India along with CII. The new building construction projects by Godrej Construction are designed and developed as per the Green Building Principles. In its journey towards making buildings more sustainable and thereby giving back to the environment, the company has completed over 500 projects in green consulting. Through this, they have created a green building footprint of over 300
million square feet of which they have facilitated platinum and gold certifications for over 300 projects.
