Kerala Feeds Limited (KFL) has commercially come up with pellets of six millimeter, which is two mm shorter than the present variety of cattle feed manufactured by the public sector undertaking.
The smaller pellets ensure smoother food intake and easier digestion, revealed KFL Managing Director Dr B. Sreekumar. “It also brings down our cost of feeding,” he added.
The new variety was first prepared last month to cater to the needs of the cows of the Guruvayur Devaswom. On March 6, KFL sent its first consignment for three cow-sheds run by the administration of the famed Srikrishna temple.
The improvisation proved to be a success, according to the PSU authorities. It prompted the administration to produce the six-mm pellets of feed in a big way.
KFL is the first Indian company to manufacture cattle-feed pellets. Founded in 1995, the PSU, headquartered in Kallettumkara near Irinjalakuda of this district, manufactures products for various breeds of cows with the aim of keeping them in good health as well as better productivity and quality of milk.
