Cusat Bestowed with Chancellor’s Award by Kerala Governor

Governor of Kerala, Justice P. Sathasivam handed over the third Chancellor’s award to the best University to Cusat at a prestigious function at the science seminar complex here today.
The award was received by Dr. J. Letha, Vice Chancellor of the University. The best Emerging Young University award was also given at the function to Anil. X, Vice Chancellor (i/c), Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presided over the function.
The Governor in his inaugural address reiterated the need to maintain quality in all areas of higher education. He recalled memories of his struggling in childhood and the way he was brought up to such an eminent position of the Chief Justice of India. He also urged the student community to strive relentlessly towards attaining and to maintain the higher stands of education.
He also remembered three observations that Dr. E. Sreedharan made while he called at the Governor at Raj Baj Bhavan, like the dilution in standards of admission especially to Engineering courses, the poor quality in the existing grading patterns in the education system and liberal examination system which were said to be causing degradation in the total pattern in the higher education. He urged the University community to rectify this situation perceiving International Standards.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in his presidential address spoke about the urgent need to ensure the timely delivery of results in the examination system which may result in total quality improvement of the system. While congratulating both the Universities for winning the Chancellor’s award, he exhorted to keep in mind attaining global standers.
He reiterated that it is only because of the concerted effort of Cusat fraternity, that it could win this prestigious title. Davendra Kumar Dhodawat, Secretary to Governor welcomed the gathering, Ibrahim Kunju MLA, offered felicitations. Dr. J Letha, Vice Chancellor of Cusat proposed a vote of thanks.
Prior to the award presentation ceremony, a function to honor the former Teachers of the University for their great contributions was held at the SMS Auditorium. Around 101 retired faculty were draped with Ponnada in the function. Dr. J. Letha Vice Chancellor, Dr. P. G. Sankaran Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. N. Chandramohanakumar Syndicate Member, Dr. S. David Peter Registrar, Dr. K. Girish Kumar, Director IQAC, and Former Professor Muhammed Yusuff spoke at the function.
