CISSA-Earth Sciences Ministry Earth Day Quiz Competition Winners

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The quiz competition organised as part of the Earth Day by the Thiruvananthapuram-based Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), in association with the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, proved to be a grand affair with students from various schools in the state capital vying for the top honours.
The quiz competition was organised on April 28 at the Gandhi Bhavan, in Thycaud. Students from Primary, Secondary and Senior Secondary levels participated in different categories and winners of each cateEarth Day Quiz1gory were awarded cash prize and certificates. In the Primary level, the team comprising Adarsh.C and Anakha Hari of Govt V& HSS Kottukal were the winners, while Rajalakshmi. R.V and Gadhya.S.S of Bharatheeya Vidya Peedom, Kurumkutty, came second.
The third prize went to Veena. C.G and Darsana of the HSS, Nedumangad. In the Secondary level, Hrudaya.R.Krishnan and Hrudayesh.R.Krishnan, from St.Thomas HSS Mukkolakkal won the first prize, while Adheena.S.S of Govt.UPS Poojappura won the second prize. The third prize went to Anoop.H.S, of LFHS Anthiyoorkonam.
In the Senior Secondary level, the first prize went to the team of Rahul Krishnan.R and Hari Krishnan.V of St.Joseph’s HSS Thiruvananthapuram, while Harishma Hari from GHSS Bharathannoor won the second prize. Karthik.M.Pillai and Nijin.S from Mariagiri EMHSS, Kudappanakunnu, won the third prize.
Dr.K.G.Ajit Kumar, Former Head, Dept of Botany, MG College, Thiruvananthapuram, conducted the quiz for the Senior Secondary level contestants, while Dr. N. G. Balachandranath, Former Principal Agricultural Officer, Dept of Agriculture, Govt of Kerala was the quiz master for the Secondary level. Dr. C.K. Peethambaran, Former Director of
Research, Kerala Agricultural University, was the quiz master for the Primary level students.
Over hundred school children assembled at the venue with their parents and teachers. A public lecture on the theme ‘Sustainable Earth’ by eminent scientist Dr E Kunhikrishnan on his recent expedition to Antarctica, was also be organised on April 28 at the Gandhi Bhavan.
