

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Citizen Digital Foundation (CDF), a Trivandrum-based social enterprise, is holding a virtual debate on transforming social media into a safe space for all on January 29, as part of the campus outreach programme of its Youth Dialogue Forum.
Students pursuing four different streams– Journalism, Law, Psychology, and Engineering- from colleges across India will join the live debate on ‘Social Media is an integral part of this generation’s culture. How can it also become a safe space for all?’.
An expert panel of international jury will evaluate the debate, which will be live-streamed on Citizen Digital Foundation’s YouTube channel from10.30 am.

Nidhi Sudhan, Co-Founder, CDF, said the event aims at fostering a culture of healthy debate, challenging the ongoing narrative often dominated by yelling and screaming without serving the real purpose of putting live issues in perspective.
“This debate seeks to encourage solution-oriented and constructive discussion of the challenges from each perspective, disagree respectfully, and suggest evidence-based solutions, with the objective of arriving at SMART action points – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound,” she added.
Keynote speakers at the debate include Dr. Arun Surendran, Strategic Director and Principal, Trinity College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram and Lai Cheng Wong, Co-Founder at MIL for ASEAN, Penang, Malaysia.
Lucas Caiado, Counsel Consultant – Green Climate Fund and Founding Partner – Caiado Ceccarelli Advogados, South Korea; Latha Nair, Vice President and Head of Delivery – Consulting and Digital Transformation, IBS Software, India; Hamida Parkar, AASW Social Worker: Crisis Work, Counselling, Coaching and Supervision, Australia; Sreejan Balakrishnan, Associate Editor, The New Indian Express; and Hema Ramaprasad, Senior Journalist and Product Consultant, CDF, are the jury members.
Teacher and writer Shakti Swaminathan will be the moderator. CDF is working to promote safe and responsible navigation and innovation in the digital ecosystem. It also provides knowledge solutions for safe and responsible navigation and innovation across private and public institutions.
