KOZHIKODE:
Recreational activities began at the brand-new Sports Arena at Kozhikode Government Cyberpark with the Sahya Cricket League (SCL) amid fresh efforts by authorities to lessen stress among employees and improve their productivity.

The day-1 of SCL, being organized by Sahya Cricket Club, saw five matches being played out between ten companies. The tournament, involving 28 IT firms of Cyberpark, features 27 matches and will host the final on March 8.

The 15-year-old Cyberpark used to organize sporting events on Sundays for its employees, but they were hosted in grounds outside of the IT hub in Nellikode, revealed Cyberpark CEO Susanth Kurunthil. The new Cyber Sports Arena on the campus of the park has now lent itself to promoting physical fitness of the employees, who can make full use of the facility, he added.

The SCL matches, with six overs a side, are held in the evenings — spanning for four hours from 6.30 p.m. The ground has been prepared by laying two football turfs, as readied by Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited.

The tournament was inaugurated by Cyberpark General Manager Vivek Nair, who also distributed the prizes for those declared Man of the Match.
The Cyber Sports Arena was inaugurated on February 23 by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The initiative seeks to establish the Sports Arena as part of reducing the stress of the employees through fitness and entertainment.

The Sports Arena consists of two five’s football turf of 1017 square feet each, one 2035 sq ft seven’s football turf, a basketball turf of 640 square feet and two double’s shuttle badminton courts.
