Kerala Feeds Limited (KFL) tied up with Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), enabling the state PSU to market the central government company’s vaccines for humans, livestock and fish.
A memorandum of understanding, signed between the two establishments, will permit KFL to sell across Kerala all the products of IIL, which is a subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board. The agreement was inked at ILL’s headquarters in Hyderabad between its Managing Director Dr K. Anand Kumar and his KFL counterpart Dr B. Sreekumar. To begin with, KFL will market IIL’s veterinary items. KFL dealers will carry out the sales in all the 14 districts of the state.
ILL’s factories have been the manufacturing centres of the internationally-famed Covaxin that India developed in 2021 against the coronavirus and earned emergency-use approval in 13 countries. Also, ILL has the world’s largest facility for producing anti-rabies vaccines.
When it comes to cattle, ILL products are renowned for their ability to boost milk production in cows and ensure higher fat content in their milk, besides stronger immunity for cows and better reproduction capacity, points out KFL.
Dr Sreekumar, while hailing the prospective results of the MoU, said the cooperation will “immensely benefit” the dairy farmers in Kerala. “The ILL products will supplement the cattle feed with nutrients amid a rise in the cost of raw materials of our products,” he pointed out. “Not only this help farmers with a cut in the cost of raw feed for their cows, there will also be rise in milk productivity. This will make dairying a profitable venture.”
The 1982-founded ILL is among the country’s very few companies with a refrigerated distribution system that guarantees high quality to its products, the KFL MD added. ILL exports 150-plus products to more than 50 countries.
The 1995-founded KFL, headquartered in Kallettumkara near Irinjalakuda of Thrissur district, manufactures products for various breeds of cows with the aim of keeping them in good health as well as better productivity and quality of milk.
