Minister Dedicates the Newly Converted BG Section Between Punalur – Sengottai

Rajen Gohain, Union Minister of State of Railways dedicated the newly gauge converted Broad Gauge section between Sengottai and Punalur (49 Km) to the nation during a function at Punalur today, the 9th of June, 2018.
K.J.Alphons, Union Minister of State for Tourism, Adv.K.Raju, Minister for Forests Animal Husbandry and Zoos, N.K.Premachandran, M.P, Kodikunnil Suresh, M.P, M.Vasanthi, M.P, Vijilla Sathyanath,M.P, and M.A.Rajagopal, Chairman Punalur Municipality were graced the occasion by their presence
Speaking at the function, Union Minister of State of Railways expressed happiness about dedicating Sengottai – Punalur section to the Nation. The minister said that Indian Railways is progressing in an era of transformation, ensuring safer and economical means of transport to the people.
He mentioned that great emphasis has been placed on strengthening infrastructure through track renewals and renovating bridges which will help to speed up passenger and Mail / Express trains in the near future. The minister informed that Railway Minister chaired a meeting recently to discuss about Mission Raftar for speeding up trains in the near future.
The minister said that he firmly believed that Indian Railways is the growth engine of the Nation and backbone of the Country’s infrastructure and the preferred mode of transport providing safer, economical and pollution free transport. The Minister assured that representations received will be considered positively. The minister announced that Tambaram-Kollam regular service will be introduced soon and Palakkad-Punalur Palaruvi Express will be extended upto Tirunelveli.
K.J.Alphons, Union Minister of State for Tourism highlighted the various developmental projects of Railways and thanked the Railway Ministry for providing several amenities for passengers. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion also complimented Railways for the various developments in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
P.K.Mishra, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway delivered the welcome speech. Neenu Itteyerah, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai, gave away the vote of thanks. Principal Head of Departments, staff of Southern Railway and members of recognised Unions participated in the function.
