‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ Cleanliness Drive Started at Thiruvananthapuram Division

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’(Cleanliness is Service) Cleanliness Fortnight, 2018 commenced in Thiruvananthapuram Division of Southern Railway today.
P. Jayakumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division, Dr. K. Vasuki, District Collector, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Ajay Kumar Varma, Director, Swachh Bharat Mission, Thiruvananthapuram, Markose Abraham, Chief Editor, Malayala Manorama, Mary Mathew, Chief Medical Superintendent, Thiruvananthapuram Division, Gopi Krishna, Divisional Secretary, SRMU and Rajesh Chandran, Station Director, Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station participated in the inaugural function held at Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station today. Railway officials, staff, students and passengers also participated in the function.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. Vasuki, District Collector of Thiruvananthapuram stressed that a Green Protocol Action Plan of ‘Reduce, Reuse & Recycle’ should be introduced at Thiruvananthapuram central station which would help the environment and improve cleanliness.  P. Jayakumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division explained the various efforts being undertaken by Indian Railways towards a Clean Railway – Clean India and sought co-operation of the passengers and the public. Dr. Ajay Kumar Varma, Mary Thomas and Gopi Krishna also explained the various measures through which cleanliness could be improved in Railways and in the society at large. Markose Abraham assured all the support of media fraternity for this great cause.
A ‘Swachhta Pledge’ was administered by P. Jayakumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram. Railway officials, staff, students, passengers and others present took the pledge. Students of Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram staged a ‘Nukkad Natak’(Street Play) stressing the importance of reducing waste and following clean practices at Railway stations and Trains. Impressed by their enthusiasm and performance, Additional Divisional Railway Manager announced a cash award of Rs.5000/- to the students.
Various activities and efforts aimed at creating awareness and improving cleanliness will be undertaken during this period of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’.
