Electricity Minister Inaugurates Work on Stadium Complex at Aymanam

Development of stadiums across the state as part of the government’s policy initiative will help mould sporting talents at the grass root level, Minister for Electricity M M Mani said here today.

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the work Of Mini Stadium Complex at Aymanam near here on Monday. Patting the efforts of Suresh Kurup MLA in clinching the project, Mani said the intervention of the legislators is a key factor in facilitating schemes like this in their respective constituencies.

Suresh Kurup, who presided over the function, said he will make available funds from his local area development fund for setting up a swimming pool in the area, provided the local panchayat handed over the land for that.

The stadium has been planned as part of the Government’s policy of developing sports infrastructure across the state, giving a thrust to sporting aspirations at the grass roots.

The Mini Stadium Complex was proposed in the 2016-17 modified budget, as one of the projects of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The complex will come up at the 1.018 acre land of Aymanam Village Panchayat at a cost of Rs 5.17 crore. The project is part of the government’s decision to ramp up the sports infrastructure facilities in village panchayats.

The complex will have two badminton courts and one volleyball court, change rooms for men and women, office room, toilets, and locker facility will be available in the complex.

Aymanam Panchayat president A K Alichan, vice president Sali Jayachandran, Thiruvarpu panchayat president Jessy Ninan and other elected representatives from the area were present. District Sports Council president Aymanam Babu, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs Executive Engineer R Biju also attended the function.

KITCO Ltd will be constructing the stadium complex under the technical supervision of the Engineering Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
