August 10, 2023

India’s 2023 sports calendar promises to be another action-packed year, with the country’s athletes looking forward to continuing with the momentum they started in 2021 during the Tokyo Olympics. With multiple qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics in place, 2023 promises to be a great year for Indian athletes who are hoping to secure a spot in the Tokyo Olympics.

Besides the tennis Grand Slams and the annual World and Asian championships for several sports, there are several major events scheduled for 2023. The year started well with the 2023 FIH Hockey World Cup in January, hosted in Odisha, India. With this event already in the history books, the Asian Games are just a few months away after being postponed last year. The event will be hosted in September in Hangzhou, China.

Here’s a summary of major sports events that Indian athletes are looking forward to. These events will bring together the country’s best athletes going against top players and punters can use the stake bonus code to wager on the events.

Athletics – World Athletics Championships (19th – 27th August)
The 19th edition of the World Athletics Championship will feature a record number of Indian athletes, with close to 28 athletes participating in the event. This event will be hosted from the 19th to the 27th of August in Budapest, Hungary.

Four men Javelin throwers have been chosen for the competition, spearheaded by last year’s Diamond League champion Neeraj Chopra. The event will also feature other leading athletes like the men’s long jumper Jeswin Aldrin and Murali Sreeshankar.

Badminton – Badminton World Championship (21st – 27th August)
Following their successful run in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Indian badminton athletes including Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu will be hoping to continue with their stellar run in 2023. PV Sindhu is among the most successful Indian badminton players and the top in the country, having won five medals. He’s also the only badminton player who has won the world championship.

Handball – Asian Women Qualifiers (17th – 23rd August)
With a total of five teams including Japan, China, Kore, Kazakhstan, and India taking place in the 2024 Olympic qualifiers, handball players will have enough action to enjoy in Japan. The winner of this competition will get a direct ticket to Paris, while the second-best team will advance to the World qualifier tournament.
