THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Reiterating the message of donating blood on World Blood Donor’s Day, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram V.K. Prasanth feted the ‘Donate Blood’ campaign, a life-saving initiative by HLL Lifecare Limited and Citizens India Foundation, at a function here today.
Other than employees of HLL Lifecare Limited, more than 100 students from Government Polytechnic College, Mohandas College of Engineering and Mar Baselios College participated in today’s campaign where Trivandrum Medical College and Regional Cancer Centre facilitated collection and processing of blood.
The Mayor stressed the importance of eradicating misconceptions surrounding blood donation. “Blood donation is a completely risk free act of life-saving. “Awareness should be spread against the false information that donating blood results in health problems to the donor,” Prasanth said.
Former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister TKA Nair, a trustee of Citizens India Foundation, expressed his gratitude to the students, who continue to exemplify the spirit of giving by participating in strength to promote the campaign.
“Blood donation is an act of compassion and humanism and it should be devoid of profit motives,” said TKA Nair, who added that it was highly encouraging to see the youth be so proactive in this effort to save lives.

Dr. Anupriya of Trivandrum Medical College and EA Subramanian, Director of Technical and Operations of Central government PSU HLL Life Care Limited were present at the function while honors were conferred on the students and faculty members of the participating educational institutions for their whole hearted involvement.
