THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Global Capability Centers (GCCs) have experienced significant evolution over three decades, driven by technological progress. Today they have transformed from technical back-office functions to embracing a solution-oriented mindset, placing a strong emphasis on operational excellence and innovation.

With this background in mind, the KPMG Global Capability Centre (GCC) Meet, held in Trivandrum, brought together some leading minds from the industry to explore the evolving landscape of talent acquisition, innovation, and strategic location planning for GCCs. The event was graced by Dr. Rathan U Kelkar, IT Secretary, Government of Keralafor a keynote address.

This knowledge-sharing event, designed as a platform for collaboration among industry leaders, featured two insightful panel discussions and fireside chats with thought leaders and industry dignitaries from leading organizations from industries such as investment banking, cloud solution providers, retail and many more.

Focus on Innovation and Strategic Location Planning
One of the takeaways from the event was the emphasis on fostering a culture of innovation within GCCs, leveraging the wider ecosystem as was evident from the discussions across the different segments of industry represented at the meet. “GCCs in India are actively adopting emerging technologies like AI and data analytics to drive operational efficiencies and unlock new revenue streams,” said Shalini Pillay, India Leader – Global Capability Centres, KPMG in India.

GCCs are forging alliances with new agile startups to accelerate the opportunity to innovate and transform. The State of Kerala, with its growing talent pool, a base of strong academic institutions, a growing start up ecosystem, and policies that are focused on leveraging new emerging technology, is well-positioned to play a vital role in this next wave of GCC evolution, offering a compelling choice of location.” added Pillay.

The discussions also underscored the strategic importance of a well-defined second location strategy for GCCs, with a specific focus on emerging hubs like Trivandrum. “Unlike other metro cities, Trivandrum offers a compelling proposition for GCCs,” said Vishnu Pillai, Office Managing Partner, Kochi, KPMG in India. He further added “This capital city boasts a diverse and growing talent pool, coupled with cost advantages and a burgeoning tech ecosystem. This makes Trivandrum an ideal location for GCCs to optimize operations, tap into fresh talent, and mitigate risks associated with over-centralization in tier-I cities. KPMG in India ‘s established presence in Kerala further strengthens our understanding of the market’s potential and our commitment to supporting the growth of Trivandrum as a premier GCC destination.”

The KPMG GCC Meet in Trivandrum served as a springboard for industry leaders to gain insights into the latest trends and best practices for driving business transformation through innovation, talent acquisition, and strategic location planning.
