Rtms Treatment Started at Lourdes Hospital

The revolution in mental health treatment started in Kerala for the first time in Lourdes hospital. On the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2022, under the leadership of Lourdes Institute of Behavioral Science (LIBS) this novel treatment procedure was introduced and the switch on ceremony of the rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) machine was also organized.

This new revolutionary treatment procedure involves delivering a magnetic pulse through an electromagnet which stimulates nerve cells in the region of your brain which is connected to mood control and depression. It can help in activating regions of the brain that have decreased activity and eventually treat depression.

This treatment procedure can help people who suffer from Depression, OCD, Stroke, Parkinson. This procedure can be done by any patient who visits Lourdes Institute of Behavioral Science (LIBS) department with ease and without any pain. It takes only half an hour to complete the procedure and as there are no side effects for this procedure this treatment is more safe and effective.

Dr. Ramachandrankutty, the former HOD of Lourdes Institute of Behavioral Science (LIBS), inaugurated the function and the director and CEO of Lourdes institutions, Rev Fr. Shaiju Augustine Thoppil did the switch on ceremony. Ringhoo Theresa (HOD, LIBS) , Dr. Pratheesh P.J Sr. consultant LIBS Dr. Vineetha V Jose (consultant LIBS) took sessions and reverted that the LIBS team is fully equipped to treat any psychological and behavioural issues.

The meeting organized on the auspicious day was also inaugurated by Dr Ramachandrankutty. Rev. Fr. Shaiju Augustine Thoppil (The Director and CEO of Lourdes Institutes), Dr. Ringhoo Theresa (HOD, LIBS) , Dr. Pratheesh P.J (Sr.consultant LIBS), Dr. Vineetha V. Jose (Consultant LIBS), Dr. Paul Puthuran (Medical Director), Dr. Santhosh John Abraham (Medical Superintendent), Divya Ajay ( Clinical Psychologist) have spoked about the importance of the day.

Dr Bobiya James ( Sr.Resident LIBS) presented the advantages of this novel treatment procedure. The winners of the poster competition which was conducted as part of world mental health day were awarded.
